Power and Collaboration

South Africa is currently experience an energy crisis due to a larger demand for electricity that can currently be met by the installed and operational generating capacity.

This has far reaching repercussions and affects each and every individual and organisation. The problem is, how do we now tackle this massive issue. It seems that the general response is one of:
  • blame the past or present government for letting this happen
  • lament about how bad the state of affairs is
  • consider emigrating to another country
  • claim that we simply have to accept the state of affairs
  • wonder when somebody is going to fix the problem
Only at the end of the list (and often it has simply fallen off the bottom) is the thought:
  • I wonder what we can all do together to resolve these problems
It seems that it does not come naturally for us to collaborate, even though this could lead to potential gains for all of us - even in this current unfortunate situation.

In an attempt to create this discussion I have set up a site: www.go-electric.org.

The question for me is now, how do I create the momentum needed to genuinely gather support and interest so that something creative and constructive and come out of this? Or, are there other groups where I could contribute, if what I am doing is in fact reinventing the wheel?
